More than astrophotography, an astronomical exploration.
Barnard 150, NGC 6946 and Comet C/2021 S3 Panstarrs
David Cruz · Astromidnight
In Cepheus, the dark filament of Barnard 150 winds in front of the stars of the Milky Way, with the Fireworks Galaxy to the right. Below it passes comet C/2021 S3, and to the left glow the red filaments of the Flying Bat.

There is no well-determined distance for Barnard 150: the literature uses values between 100 and 440 parsecs (Kun et al. 2008), so we give no real width; the field also mixes a galaxy 25 million light-years away and a comet in the Solar System. Positions of the nebulae, galaxies and cluster taken from SIMBAD and NED; those of the dark nebulae are approximate. The centre of the Flying Bat (Sh2-129) lies outside the frame, so the marker was placed on the visible filaments. The position of the comet's head was measured by us on the image; the date and distance come from JPL (Horizons) for the early hours of 13 June 2024.
